On 16 September, an online meeting brought together representatives of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre and Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
Myroslava Mylenka presented the infrastructure and research potential of the International Scientific Centre “Observatory” for mountain meteorology and climate research. Participants discussed meteorological observations, climate studies, monitoring of mountain ecosystems, and the exchange of data and expertise.
The discussion also covered the involvement of Observatory and department researchers in international initiatives and access to relevant research opportunities. The Finnish Meteorological Institute was represented by Jenni Latikka and Harri Pietarila; the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre by Olena Palakhniuk and Olena Kosovets-Skavronska; and the ministry by a representative. Halyna Melnychenko and Uliana Semak represented the university’s Department of Biology and Ecology.
The meeting was an initial step towards Ukrainian-Finnish cooperation. The university continues to develop the Observatory as an open high-altitude platform for research and international collaboration.
